Alan Fankhauser '82
Associate director of alumni programs
785-532-5057
Each year two students are elected to spend the year attending alumni and campus activities,
and speaking to alumni, friends, current and prospective students. The ambassadors serve a one-year term, and each receives the Kirk Family Student Ambassador
Scholarship of $2,500. They also will receive clothing from Borck Bros. and the official K-State ring from the Alumni Association. Ambassadors are elected by the student body at Homecoming
each year (Note: the Ambassador position is for the calendar year).
The two K-State Student Ambassadors represent the student body at Alumni Association
events throughout the state and at university activities. The ambassador program began
in 1977 as a way to involve student representatives at alumni events.
Student Ambassadors visit with prospective students and alumni at Alumni Association
events throughout Kansas, attend Student Alumni Board meetings and activities, assist
with Alumni Association programming on campus like the Alumni Fellows program, Homecoming
Student Committee and other special events, as well as assist the president's office
as needed.
JOB DESCRIPTION
The K-State Student Ambassadors' duties include the following:
EXPENSES
All expenses associated with Alumni Association activities will be covered for the
ambassadors.
EVENT ATTENDANCE
The Alumni Association shall act as the clearinghouse when requests for appearances are made specifically to the Ambassadors, with the exception of the President's Office. This is strictly to protect the Ambassadors from requests that they may be unable to fulfill. All requests should be directed to the advisor.
Some events are scheduled during the summer months and Ambassadors are strongly encouraged to be present for these events. The Ambassadors should feel free to turn down any events requesting their attendance if there are conflicts because of academic reasons, upon consulting the advisor.
The Ambassadors will meet periodically with the advisor to coordinate the event calendar.
Because the events the ambassadors will attend vary in location and purpose, the advisor
will give guidance on dress. The Ambassadors are expected to be punctual for all event
departures and/or listed event times.
SELECTION PROCESS
The Student Ambassador selection process consists of the following:
The candidate pool will be gradually reduced following each step in the process.
