Bringing purple pride to the KC Parade of Hearts đź’ś
A unique art staple in the Kansas City area is the Parade of Hearts. All across the Kansas City area, local artists have made these public art displays
to showcase community pride. Now the K-State Olathe Campus has one … and a K-State
artist designed it.
K-State Olathe has secured a KC heart designed by Allison Bowman ’17. Olathe Campus
officials say the heart was installed near the main entrance using funds that were
set aside for artwork when the campus was built. The “heART” is themed Of the Prairie, and encourages people to learn more about the natural world and celebrates Kansas’
tall grasses (now mostly found in the Flint Hills).
Bowman is a practicing multidisciplinary artist and advocate who creates experiences for everyday people using paintings, collage
and wearable media.
The KC heart is one of the sightseeing stops on the Parade of Hearts map, inviting visitors to stop by to see the heart and explore campus.
