Homecoming Grand Marshal

Amy Button Renz ’76, ’86 will be the 2023 Homecoming Parade grand marshal. She was selected for the honor by the All-University Homecoming Committee and the K-State Alumni Association.

The Parade will take place on Oct. 27 at 5 p.m., beginning at Manhattan Town Center and proceeding through Aggieville before ending in City Park for the Homecoming Pep Rally.

Button Renz retired in June as president and CEO of the K-State Alumni Association after more than 45 years of service to the university. She began her career with the Alumni Association in 1977 and was named president and CEO in 1994, becoming the first female alumni director in the Big Eight and later the Big 12 conference. Button Renz was instrumental in the creation of many programming efforts including the Student Alumni Board and the K-State Student Ambassadors. She served as the lead fundraiser for the Alumni Center building campaign. The $12.7 million facility was dedicated in October 2002.

Under her leadership the Alumni Association has raised more than $6 million for student scholarships and recognition through the K-State License Plate program. Since 1996, the program has expanded to include four states. Additionally, the Alumni Association has raised more than $3.7 million for student scholarships through Wabash CannonBall galas in Kansas City, North Texas, Houston and Colorado.

“Amy has done so much for our university, and this is just one more way we can celebrate her and her legacy,” said Adam Walker ’04, ’09, president and CEO of the K-State Alumni Association. “Our student-led Homecoming Committee selected Amy for this honor. Their selection shows how connected and caring Amy has been to our students past and present. We look forward to celebrating another exciting Homecoming with Amy and the rest of the K-State family!”

Homecoming has been a tradition at K-State for more than 100 years. This year’s theme is “Purple Dynasty.” The week-long celebration, coordinated by the Homecoming Committee, will take place from Oct. 22-28 and is sponsored by the K-State Alumni Association.
