K-State President Henry Waters
1909-1917
Henry Waters’ arrival was the first to be met with pomp and circumstance, complete with a parade, 17-gun salute and vigorous applause. Wrote The Industrialist of his inauguration: “The walls were made to echo with the thundering college yell given by the students during ‘Alma Mater.’”
Waters strengthened the college’s admissions standards and academic offerings, and adopted the semester system as the academic calendar.
Waters Hall, headquarters of the College of Agriculture, K-State Research and Extension and many other departments and programs, was named for Waters.
