K-State President John Anderson
1873-1879
John Anderson worked to shift the college’s academic focus from classical studies with required Greek and Latin readings to a more practical agricultural education.
In addition to relocating classes from Bluemont Central College to the present site of K-State, Anderson also established the weekly campus newspaper, The Industrialist, first published April 24, 1875. After leaving KSAC, Anderson served six terms as a U.S. congressman.
Anderson Hall, K-State’s flagship building and administrative headquarters, and Anderson Avenue are named in his honor.
